Regional Dental Services
Dental services implemented to offer a highly specialized
program for children and adults developmentally disabled
in Adams, Brown, Calhoun, Cass, Christian, Greene, Hancock,
Jersey, Logan, Macoupin, Mason, Menard, Montgomery, Morgan,
Pike, Sangamon, Schuyler and Scott counties.
The basic objective is the provision of comprehensive dental
services to developmentally disabled citizens who endure the
difficulties of dental hygiene. Through the specialized dental
services, Pathway Services Unlimited offers:
- Initial screening exams;
- Routine cleanings and prophylaxis;
- Hygiene Instruction;
- Prevention, and
- Simple restorations.
An initial screening appointment determines the dental
procedures and the individual’s ability to cooperate in a
clinical setting. When extensive restorations or surgical
treatment is indicated, or the severity of the disability
impairs the clinic treatment, a recommendation for treatment
under general anesthetic may be offered.
The Regional Dental Services highly advocates for prevention as
its main objective. Dental office staff instructs individuals
the proper techniques for oral hygiene to remove plaque, reduce
mouth odor and help with the prevention of oral disease.
In the event of an individual having difficulties with the
surroundings/procedures in the dental office setting, the Regional
Dental Service staff implements a “desensitization” program for
the individual. The main emphasis of this program is to afford
the individual an opportunity to visit the dental office in a less
restrictive environment and help the individual through their
uncertainties and/or fears.
All dental services are provided by licensed Dentist and hygienists,
and training staff.
