Family Financial Resource Program
The Family Financial Resource Program began as a pilot project funded by
the Illinois Planning Council on Developmental Disabilities in December
of 1988. The Department of Human Services became the lead agency in
December of 1990 and continues as the funding source today.
About The Program. . .
The Family Financial Resource Program is designed to assist families
in maintaining their family member, who has a developmental disability,
within their own family setting. Such support enables the family to stay
together as a unit. The program is based on the belief that families along
with the disabled family member should make their own decisions over their lives.
We assist families to identify/ meet the needs of the individual with a disability
and address the related needs of the family.
We help families identify, utilize and sometimes increase their
natural supports as part of the process. In addition, we assist
them in identifying and accessing generic community financial benefits/ services
available to them.
Risk vs. Choice decisions are addressed in the Individual’s Program Plan.
Our Belief. . .
It is our belief that every person who is developmentally disabled
is a unique being who may need individualized services that
will enable them to remain in a family setting.
The family as a unit will be supported to promote
the values of INDEPENDENCE, SOCIAL INTEGRATION, and PRODUCTIVITY.
